Disneyland is coming to Mugla, Turkey

Turkey is to build a Disneyland resort in the Mugla Province near the town of Oren.
Disneyland Turkey will be larger than Eurodisney Paris. Construction will take 2 years. It will be built over an area of 1.3m square metres and will employ 17,000 staff. |

When the Council expanded in 1966 it designated two of its 10 elected seats for Western Europe and “others”, but significantly neglected to approach Turkey. This category was typically filled by countries like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This time, however, Turkey and Austria have been elected to represent western Europe after defeating Iceland in the General Assembly elections. |

Marina continues at full speed

ONE of the biggest marinas in Turkey – and less than two kilometres from Aegean Resorts’ newest projects – is taking shaping at a rapid rate as it seeks to be operational by next summer.
The marina, in Altinkum, as these pictures show, is being developed close to the Aegean Resorts’ Aegean Villas complex, and the exciting Legends Cove project which will be unveiled in due course.
The £30 million marina is seen as the key to providing a 12-month tourism economy for Altinkum and the rest of the resort. |

For the recital of the renowned pianist Gülsin Onay, who came to Didim for the Festival Meandros, a piano was brought from the Bilkent University. The piano was taken into the temple by the aid of a lifting crane. |

Ships bring tourism boost

AN EXTRA 38 cruise ships will visit Didim over the summer and bring thousands more visitors to the area, it has been disclosed.
Sukrü Tugay, assistant chief executive officer of the Yesil Marmaris company, which is acting as agents for Windstar Cruise Liners, said that between 10,000 and 15,000 tourists would pass through the international port gates this season.
This would provide a massive boost to Didim which normally sees about 60,000 tourists each year. |

The festival, which runs from June 27 to July 27, will host events such as a sculpture symposium, a photography camp, concerts at ancient sites, culture trips and village dinners.

THE first passengers arrived at Didim’s International Port today to be met by Turkish music, smiles, hand-shakes, as well as roses from Mayor Mümin Kamaci, and his wife Serife.
The historic landing came as the first batch of passengers from Wind Spirit hopped off a small boat dispatched from the cruise ship at about 10.30am. The first passenger to alight from the boat was Brazilian Adriana Ronaldo. |

Wind power for Didim village

A NETWORK of wind turbines from Denmark is to generate power for a village near Didim – and potentially the resort itself in the future.
Akyeniköy’s Mayor Yilmaz Öz said 15 wind turbines, each 78 metres high, would be installed by Denmark firm Iyen Energy to generate electricity for the village.
He said the electricity produced would even be enough for Didim in the future. |

THE development of Didim Marina continues at full speed, with the constructor’s claiming it could be operational by May next year.
With 120 workers on site, about 80 per cent of the marina’s construction and 60 per cent of infilling are now complete. It will eventually have a capacity of 650 yachts on land and 450 at sea. |
