After the amendment in the constitution about purchasing a property in Turkey for foreigners in February 2002, the number of the British people buying property in Turkey has grown a lot. The main reason for this tendency is because of the fact that the property prices in Turkey are at least ten times cheaper than the prices in UK. Moreover the climate, friendly people and the lovely culture are the other assets of Turkey.

If I purchase a property in Turkey, do I have to come to Turkey many times? Will it be possible for me to obtain enough leave from work?

The season in most parts of the holiday resorts begins in May and finishes in November so these times are the best to come over to Turkey. In these months sun shines all the time. In winter the climate is much warmer than Europe , 9 months guaranteed sunshine and mild winter days.

Are the medical services good in Turkey? Will I be able to get exactly the same services as I get at home?
There are no NHS hospitals in Turkey. We have both government and privately owned hospitals. The private hospitals are generally 40% cheaper than their European counterparts, and the medical services are good with one to one patient care. You can also have private health insurance in Turkey.

The currency accepted in Turkey is Turkish Lira but UK pound, US dollar and Euro are also widely accepted.

At Aegean Resorts we have English speaking managers and our own certified sworn translators to ensure that you have a complete understanding of the legal process and have a peace of mind. As for the daily conversations, more or less all Turkish people can speak English.

Do I have to use a lawyer?
At Aegean Resorts, we only sell properties in conjunction with a lawyer to take all your legal rights under the guarantee.

Why use a lawyer?
A lawyer will represent your interests throughout the entire purchase of your property. A contract is drawn up between the seller and the buyer, which is checked thoroughly by both parties before signing.

How long does it take for me to own the property?
As a military check is carried out on all foreign people before the title deeds are authorized, it may take about six to nine months.

o

Who inherits our property if one of us dies?
According to Turkish Civil Code, in case of something like that, the property automatically goes to spouse and children unless you had another notice added on your title deed certificate.

What are the tax implications for owning a house?
There are some taxes that you have to pay in Turkey. The first one is buyer's property tax. This is only the 3% of the whole price written on the title deed certificate. Apart from this, we have community tax which is paid twice a year but this very minimal like 30 pound a year.

Do I have to pay any money if I own property in a complex?
There is a annual charge for the houses in the complex for maintenance of the pool and wages of the security and regular upkeep. This would be about 500 pounds up to 600 pounds a year.

What voltage is the electricity?
It is 220 voltages in Turkey. You may also use regulatory to smooth the electricity if necessary.

Is the tap water drinkable?
In most of the holiday resorts we recommend you not drink tap water. You would better use bottled water which is available everywhere and very cheap to buy.

How do mobiles operate in Turkey?
Mobile phones are bought separately in Turkey. You can either choose ‘pay as you go' or by monthly subscription.

Can I have a bank account in Turkey?
Yes, you can open bank accounts in Turkey. Your passport will be required for this transaction. Also cash machines are available everywhere in Turkey. HSBC Bank now everywhere in Turkey and it is very easy to transfer money.

Can we bring our furniture from abroad?
There are lots of international removal companies. But this will be a long and a stressful process and also you will have to pay tax on the entry so we recommend you buy your furniture's from Turkey. For all your furniture's 5000 – 6000 sterling would be enough depends on the quality.

What about insurance?
There are plenty of companies offering property insurance. We can guide you to find the best insurance company.
