ONE of the exclusive and biggest cruise liners, The World, caused astonishment to Altinkum residents and holidaymakers when it docked several hundred metres from Main Beach on Saturday.
The World, which caters for the jetset rich, is 12 storeys high and has 165 rooms ranging in price from 500,000 dollars up to 1.5 million dollars. It caters for between 150-200 passengers
The World had travelled from Alanya, via Fethiye and Rhodes, as well as Bodrum, before the captain decided to dock overnight in Altinkum Bay, providing an impressive sight for the hundreds of people gathered on the beach and on the promenade.
The ship departed for Patmos and Kuşadası before it heads to Istanbul where it will dock for four days from June 30.
The World is the world's largest private yacht — a floating residential community owned by its residents. The residents, currently from 40 different countries, live on board as the ship slowly circumnavigates the globe — staying in most ports from 2 to 5 days.
Some residents live onboard full time while others visit their floating home periodically throughout the year.
The World has many facilities similar to those on board a regular cruise ship but are unique due to the residential nature of the vessel.
Her amenities include a small grocery store and delicatessen, a boutique, complete athletic facilities that include a golf simulator, putting green, casino, full-sized tennis court, jogging track and fully equipped gym.
There are five restaurants that supplement the full kitchens in all apartments and the ever-changing variety of dining ashore as the ship travels.
For on-board entertainment there is a movie theatre, library and music performances. In addition to shore excursions, classes have been offered on board in dance, navigation, language, cooking, arts and crafts, music, computers, and photography. In addition, The World provides high-speed Internet access in each residence. |
