Major festival opens

29th June, 2008

BRITISH residents and holidaymakers are being urged to cross the cultural divide and attend one of the many highlights of the Meandros Festival which began yesterday (Friday June 27).

The “Delta of Civilizations, Meandros’ is a unique collaboration of local cities which aims to create a regional tourist trademark and make it heard on national and international levels.

As part of the project, the Meandros Festival has been created with a host of activities - such as symposiums, festivals and workshops - supported by different cities within the Civilizations Delta.

The festival, which runs until July 27,  began with a sculpture symposium of five chosen international artists at the Temple of Apollo. The sculptors will work next to the Apollon Temple for a month and their sculptures dimensions will be left to Didim at the end of the symposium.

A full programme of activities is published below, with a plea from the organisers for foreign residents and visitor to support the festival at some point in the month. For more information, go to www.meandros.info.
