Marina breezes on

15th April, 2008

THE development of Didim Marina continues at full speed, with the constructor’s claiming it could be operational by May next year.

With 120 workers on site, about 80 per cent of the marina’s construction and 60 per cent of infilling are now complete. It will eventually have a capacity of 650 yachts on land and 450 at sea.

Speaking to Voices this week, Mayor Mümin Kamacı, said officers were meeting travel agencies from various countries to bring more tourists to Didim, particularly after the impact that Didim had made at the EMITT Tourism Fair in Istanbul.

He said: “Once the marina is opened, I believe the number of tourists coming to Didim will increase by 100%. The marina will breathe new life into Didim.”
Pointing out that Didim Marina had a great advantage regarding location over other marinas in the Aegean Sea, he said: “Didim Marina is on the route of all the yachts that tour from Çeşme-Kuşadası-Bodrum-Datça-Marmaris-Fethiye. This will be the way port of all excursion yachts.”

Didim D-Marin construction supervisor Kemal Atabak said that when the construction is completed, there would also be a boutique hotel of 80 rooms, businesses on 20 different sectors, many shops, restaurants, cafes and markets.
It will also have banks, health clinics, a helicopter field, a parking lot for 526 vehicles, an open sports field, tennis courts, four multi-purpose sports fields, a shipyard, a ceremonial square, swimming pools and saunas on site.

Mr Atabak said: “The marina, which will open a new millennium for Didim, already has started to make the district a centre of attraction.
“There will also be a revival in the real estate sector. Estate agents take their clients first to the marina and tell them about its contributions to the city. When the marina is complete, the real estate prices will increase and tourism will revive in Didim.”
