THE SOUNDS of a piano echoed through the ruins of the Temple of Apollon for the first time in its 2,500-year history.
For the recital of the renowned pianist Gülsin Onay, who came to Didim for the Festival Meandros, a piano was brought from the Bilkent University. The piano was taken into the temple by the aid of a lifting crane.
Performing the works of Beethoven, Chopin and Saygun, Onay enchanted the audience with her interpretation as well as with her long white dress.
The audience, spilling over from the steps to the stones and ground, gave a standing ovation after each rendition. The concert was attended by about 600 local and foreign people.
Last Monday, at the Apollon Temple, Bodrum Chamber Orchestra, established by Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Bodrum Council, under the baton of Naci Özgüç played works from Vivaldi, Mozart, Albinoni and Kodallı.
