A NETWORK of wind turbines from Denmark is to generate power for a village near Didim – and potentially the resort itself in the future.
Akyeniköy’s Mayor Yılmaz Öz said 15 wind turbines, each 78 metres high, would be installed by Denmark firm Iyen Energy to generate electricity for the village.
He said the electricity produced would even be enough for Didim in the future.
The wind farm will be the first in the Aydin province and the largest on the Aegean coastline.
Yılmaz Öz said they had come up with this idea in order to prevent power cuts which took place, especially in the summer.
Öz stated they had negotiated with various companies prior to making their final decision last week. Mayor of Akyeniköy said they had come to terms with a company to build two plants.
Mayor Öz said “We will build two power plants working on wind energy, one at Saptalan and the other at Mengerek. These plants will produce 128 million kW/h of electricity per year.
“This figure is more than what Didim uses in a year. In the future, Akköy might even supply electricity for Didim.”
