CLOSER links between Didim and the Greek city of Hrisopolis are to be promoted following the setting up of an historic ‘freiendship’ initiative.
A Fraternity and Friendship Protocol was signed by the Didim Council and the Hrisopolis Council of Greece at Kamacı 3 Restaurant.last Friday (Apr 5).
The ceremony was attended by RPP Aydın Deputy Fatih Atay, Greece Kavala Governor Theodoros Kaziotayidis, Aydın Assistant Governor Mesut Kırcalı, former Mayor of Hrisopolis Stelio Gulyas and Hrisopolis Council members.
There was also a group of 70 members of the public, including children and grandchildren of those who had emigrated to Kavala from Didim following the exchange treaty.
The Protocol was signed by Didim Mayor Mümin Kamacı and Hrisopolis Council Speaker Zisimov Pavlos.
Mr Kamacı, delivering a speech after the signing, said: “People of Didim and Hrisopolis have proved once more that the Greeks and Turks are not enemies but friends. I hope the fire of peace lit in Didim will illuminate the whole world.”
Hrisopolis Council Speaker Zisimov Pavlos said: “The Turks and Greeks are the children of the same lands and so they are brothers and sisters. Through this protocol, we have reinforced this friendship.”
