A HOLLYWOOD ‘A’ list celebrity and yacht owner is heading a high powered list of mega-yacht owners looking to moor up when the new $52 million Didim marina opens next May, Voices can reveal.
The actor, who remains anonymous, was revealed in an exclusive interview with the marina manager Murat Yaprak, who revealed the massive site was creating a buzz in the international yachting arena.
When the marina officially opens on May 1, it will be one of the largest in operation on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
Over its 287,000 sq m area, it will have 625 berths at sea, and in its dry dock, a capacity for 600 yachts and a yacht lift for 300 and 100 tonnes. It will be able to cope with the multi-million mega-yachts of the rich and famous, with yachts between up to 60 metres in length.
Mr Yaprak said the Hollywood actor, who he declined to name, was excited by the opening and had given his yacht to a Turkish company to re-fit.
This company had already confirmed it was looking to use to the marina’s dry dock hi-tech facilities for the fitting.
He added: “The international yachting arena is very excited at the plans for Didim marina and already we are getting inquiries from across the world about the facilities here and when it will be open.
“We already have upwards of 35 yacht owners who want to berth at Didim next year, such is the anticipation for the site to open.”
He anticipated that the daily, weekly, monthly and annual costs of a berth at didim marina would be unveiled in January or February.
He added: “The marina will attract yacht owners from the Middle East and across Europe. But importantly, it will be catering for the mega-yacht crowd, the super-rich, who have yachts that cannot berth at the likes of Turgutries, near Bodrum.”
Other amenities will include a yacht club, heliport, a shopping centre, supermarket, yacht equipment shops, a fitness centre, sports facilities, restaurants, bars as well as a ferry boat operator, customs and port authority facilities.
He said the shopping centre would consist of about 30 shops, but he confidently said there would be no problem in filling the units.
He added: “We have had demand from 100 international companies looking to fill the shopping centre. They will be of an exceptional standard and we are excited at the potential developments ahead.
He added: “The construction of the site is bang on target and we are preparing to officially open the marina on May 1, next year.” |
